Due to his work as a professional chef, Edwin Hammond Meredith has traveled and lived in Europe and Asia. In addition to his interests in international travel and cuisine, Edwin Hammond Meredith is a self-described tattoo enthusiast.
Tattoo artists and dermatologists recommend a hygiene routine to keep newly tattooed skin clean and moisturized. Immediately after finishing the tattoo, the artist will cover the skin with petroleum jelly and wrap the area in a bandage, which can be removed after 24 hours. The tattoo can then be gently cleaned with mild, antibacterial soap and treated with a topical antibiotic cream. This ointment should be reapplied several times a day. While the tattoo may flake or itch as it heals, individuals should not scratch the skin and should avoid swimming or otherwise immersing the tattoo in water for at least two weeks. Without proper aftercare, a new tattoo may become inflamed, infected, or scarred.
