A Key Largo, Florida resident, Edwin Hammond Meredith has a history of contributing to charities. Through his support of the youth organization 4-H, Edwin Hammond Meredith contributes to the nonprofit’s ability to reach more than six million children through its programming.
For more than a decade, 4-H has delivered the STEM Challenge, initially named the 4-H National Youth Science Day. The name change reflected the inclusion of topics in technology and mathematics. Each year, 4-H develops a series of STEM activities based on a specific theme. Past challenges have incorporated renewable energy sources, mapping technologies, and computer programming. Educators and 4-H club leaders can order STEM Challenge kits to gain access to interactive activities developed exclusively by 4-H. The most recent STEM Challenge, Mars Base Camp, encourages young people to investigate topics in engineering, agriculture, and physics through space travel. While schools and youth clubs are encouraged to participate in the STEM Challenge during October to celebrate 4-H STEM Month, kits will be available for purchase by July and can be used all year round.
